Yet even in her most degraded moments, she is visited by intimations of another life — a palace, a prince, an exalted and fulfilled version of herself. Is this other life her true intended one? Or merely another cruel torture, dangled only to torment her with an opposite pole of existence, suggesting that her very mind may be in bondage too?
Piece by piece, the mystery — and her fate — are uncovered. Though, perhaps the only real choice may be to submit.
